Ayurvedic Practitioner, Yoga Therapist and Trainer, AD Certification student
Bill experienced his first yoga class in 1984 and was immediately taken by the physical challenge and wellbeing but especially the mental focus and deep relaxation aspects. Shortly after this initial introduction to yoga he took a break from college studies in anthropology (still on that break!) and began an immersion of practicing and studying yoga and meditation.
He began teaching in 1988 after receiving his certification from TriYoga. As Bill began to teach outside of the yoga studio, he quickly realized that a branded style of yoga with set sequencing was very limiting when addressing the individual needs of students and began developing a more creative individualized style of teaching. With over 50 ,000 sessions later in a wide variety of settings, he has been teaching yoga ever since. He firmly believes that yoga can help any human being in any state to progress physically, mentally, and spiritually. It is the yoga teachers role to implement what practices of asana, sequences, breathing, and concentration /meditation techniques best suite this balance and progress.
After initially teaching in yoga studios, Bill was soon in high demand anywhere there was an interest in yoga. He was a pioneer in Corporate Yoga and Wellness Programs in Silicon Valley teaching and starting yoga programs at companies such as AMD, Applied Materials, Cisco Systems, SiTime, Facebook, Intel, Hewlett-Packard, eBay, Netscape, and dozens more. His private practice includes tens of thousands of sessions with numerous Fortune 500 executives, professional athletes from football, baseball, hockey, and tennis as well as anyone with a sincere interest in yoga. He has also been instrumental in the development of yoga applications for special needs students, most notably Autism Spectrum Disorders.
A tremendous influence and inspiration in Bill’s life and teaching is his spiritual Guru, Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji, whom he met in 1990 and has been closely associated with ever since.
After years of interest, Bill completed a 3 year degree in Ayurveda Studies from the California College of Ayurveda with the titles Clinical Ayurveda Specialist and Pancha Karma Specialist in 2007. This knowledge, along with the years of teaching experience, was instrumental in the continued development of the concepts of Ayurvedaology as a teachable system of yoga and ayurveda to address and implement yoga and yoga therapy into a wide range of applications.
Bill and Avisha founded Ayurvedaology in 2007 to combine yoga, Ayurveda, and the allied sciences to aid our clients and communities.
In 2021, Bill began studying at Kerala Ayurveda Academy in the Ayurvedic Doctor-level certification program, the highest level of Ayurveda training available in the U.S. With this advanced training, he is honored to expand his services into health care.
